How to Get the Best Rates on Car Insurance in New Hampshire
The way to get the best rates on car insurance in New Hampshire is to have a spotless driving record and to drive an older car or a car which is fully paid for, because if your car is not financed and if you have a perfect driving record, then you are not required to purchase any car insurance in the state of New Hampshire.
Its hard to find a better insurance rate than FREE!
Of course, the reality is that most people either finance their vehicle or they do not have a spotless driving record. This is why many people in New Hampshire end up buying car insurance.
If you finance a car then the car itself is the collateral for your loan. Your lender needs to protect that collateral and so requires that you carry full car insurance coverage.
And while the state of New Hampshire is very generous in not requiring every citizen to purchase car insurance, their generosity does have its limits.
If you are convicted of a DUI (Driving Under the Influence) or a DWI (Driving While Intoxicated) then you are automatically required to purchase automobile insurance for at least 3 years. If you are convicted of either offense a second time, you can count on having to purchase five years of car insurance.
Acquiring negative points on your driving record can also earn you a one-way ticket to purchasing car insurance.
The number of negative points needed to trigger your need for car insurance varies with your age, but you can earn negative points for such things as running a stoplight or a stop sign, driving on a sidewalk, speeding, failing to obey the orders of a police officer and other similar offenses.
Obviously the best way to keep your car insurance rates low is to drive safely and within the law at all times.
There are other things you can do to help keep your rates as low as possible.
If you have an older car with little or no Kelly Blue Book value then drop any collision or comprehensive coverage you might be paying for because your insurance company wont pay for repairs to your vehicle anyway.
If youre an older driver, 55 or older, your company may sponsor a drivers refresher course. Pass such a course and your monthly premiums could be shaved by as much as 10 percent. Check with your company to see if they support such a program.
If youre under 25 and in school then stay there and work hard to get at least a B grade point average. Students with a B average often are entitled to a Good Student Discount on their car insurance.
Finally, get online and find a couple of the sites that let you compare car insurance prices. Take the time to fill out the form on at least two different sites and preferably 3 different sites so you can be certain that you are comparing all of the different insurance companies writing car insurance polices here in Maryland; that way you can be sure that you are getting the best rates on car insurance in New Hampshire.
